born 1953 in Łódź, has been living in Krakow since 1972, teaching contemporary Polish literature at the Jagiellonian University. He has published nine books of poems, among others Wspólne powietrze (Common Air, 1981), Zmęczenie (Exhaustion, 1986), Światło (Light, 1994) and Elegie, treny, sny (Elegies, Laments, Dreams, 2003). He is also the author of a book-length critical study of the 20th-century poet Tadeusz Gajcy, Biały chłopiec (White Boy, 1993) and Kronika wydarzeń artystycznych, kulturalnych, towarzyskich i innych (The Chronicle of Artistic, Cultural, Social and Other Events, 1997). His poems have been translated into more than ten languages. He is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards, such as the Koscielski Foundation prize (1984) and the PEN-Club prize for poetry (1995).
