Born in 1955, an Italian writer, publisher, translator, and Polish culture enthusiast. He studied philosophy and the history of ideas in Florence and in Warsaw. He has worked as editor for Italy’s leading publishing houses (Feltrinelli, Bruno Mondadori, Bollati Boringhieri), and has written numerous essays on Polish literature and history and Central Europe, edited the works of Witold Gombrowicz, Bruno Schulz, and Stanisław Jerzy Lec, and has translated Bronisław Geremek. His books include: Immaturitá. La malattia del nostro tempo (Einaudi, Torino 2004; Polish edition: Niedojrzałość. Choroba naszych czasów, Znak, Krakow 2006); Che fine faranno i libri? (nottetempo, Rome 2010); Vado a vedere se di l’ meglio (Sellerio, Palermo 2010; Polish edition also published by Znak). He has recently published Chernobyl (Sellerio, Palermo 2011). In Poland, there have also been two works published under his editorship: Gombrowicz-filozof and Przeciw poetom (both: Znak, Krakow 1995).
