Russian sociologist, analyst, translator, lecturer and head of the department of sociopolitical research at the Yuri Levada Centre in Moscow. He graduated from the philological faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, specialising in Russian and French languages. He has published articles on foreign literature and modern Russian poetry. He has translated literary works into Russian from many languages, including English, French, Spanish and Polish. His translations include works by writers such as: Czesław Miłosz, Janusz Szuber, Jorge Luis Borges, Guillaume Apollinaire, Octavio Paz, Federico García Lorca or Emil Cioran. He has done research on the sociology of elites, public opinion, translation theory and the sociology of culture, religion, literature and mass media. He has been granted many prestigious awards, including the Efim Etkind International Award (2006), the insignia of the Chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite (France, 2008), and the Andrei Bely Prize (2005).
