Małgorzata Łukasiewicz – born in 1948 in Warsaw. She studied foreign languages and philosophy at the University of Warsaw. As a translator of German-language literaturę and a literary critic, she works with many publishing houses, periodicals and cultural institutions. She is a member of the jury of the GDYNIA Literary Award. She has translated works by such authors as Patrick Süskind, Hermann Hesse, W. G. Sebald, Robert Walser, Theodore W. Adorno, Jürgen Habermas, Friedrich Nietzsche and Georg Simmel. She has published collections of essays: Robert Walser (Czytelnik 1990), Column Under the Rose [Rubryka pod różą] (Znak 2007), How to be an Artist. On the Example of Thomas Mann [Jak być artystą. Na przykładzie Thomasa Manna] (Więź 2011), A Strange Thing – Writing [Dziwna rzecz – pisanie] (Więź 2012). Winner of the Literatura na Świecie, Polish PEN Club and Zeszyty Literackie awards, as well as the Hermann Hesse Literature Prize and the Polish-German Award.
