From the introduction:
‘This participants’ anthology was prepared for the Second International Haiku Conference in Krakow, held within the Fourth Czesław Miłosz Festival. Miłosz, the Nobel Prize-winning poet, took an interest in haiku and published a book of translations of the works of the classical Japanese masters as well as contemporary American and Canadian poets. This contributed to the popularization of haiku in Poland. … The writers whose work is included here are haiku poets with various achievements, from different corners of the world: the United States and many European countries to Japan. The reader will find haiku in both neoclassical and modern styles, describing the world sometimes in a serious way and sometimes more humorously, but always providing space for the reader to feel what exists beyond words.’
