Russian poet. She composed her first poem at the age of three, and went on to graduate from the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute in 1995. She was editor-in-chief of the sociopolitical OpenSpace.ru website, where she published current news, ran stories on cultural events and shared specialist art-related knowledge. She was also editor-in-chief of the independent, donation-funded Colta.ru. She received many Russian and international awards, including the Andrei Bely Prize and the Iosif Brodsky scholarship. Her most recent work touches on i.a. Russian political issues and the situation in Donbas.

Though acclaimed for her poetry, she also writes interesting prose. 2014 saw the publication of her essay collection One, Nobody, Not Me. Stiepanowa is also an active journalist who writes for several publishing houses. To date, her poems have been published and translated into many languages, e.g. Finnish, Hebrew, Italian, English, French, Serbo-Croatian and German.
